"Nothing More Than a Hill of Beans"

This venue appears to have been the long standing host for Alegria NYC.

This club closed in april 2010, according to this article in the NY Times.

Judge Michael D. Stallman of State Supreme Court granted the city’s request to close the club after police described it as a Wild West of drug dealing, marijuana smoking and violent, out-of-control crowds both inside and outside the club, at 530 West 28th Street.

I have three pointed comments on this. I will try to keep this more organized than usual.

1. "wild west of drug dealing"? Cops should already know that this is happening. It's actually better now than it was 10 or 20 years ago, when we didn't know as much about the drugs, and club promoters got away with spiking the punch and releasing drugs into the club through it's ventilation (much like casinos do with oxygen!)

2. They DO know it's happening and choose to bust when they want.

"Officials waited until now to close the club because the earlier drug transactions involved small amounts that did not warrant padlocking it, Mr. Browne said."

Of course. When cops came into colors in santa cruz, they knew exactly where the drug room was and didn't waste any time. Generally cops know where to find these things, and if they don't it's not the most difficult thing in the world. Usually something exterior triggers the decision to shut the club down.

3. "Robert S. Bookman, a lawyer for the club, said the owner, Joey Morrissey, would fight the charges rather than paying a fine or settling the case because it did not 'amount to a hill of beans.'"

Despite how strongly I agree with Mr. Bookman, it's closed to this day.
